Megan Morris was one of the contestants of The CW network’s reality show, America’s Next Top Model. However, she is unlike most freelance model that got in the job to support themselves. Instead of aiming to support herself, she uses the money that she got from freelance modeling to fund a 3D animation company called MediZed.
Unfortunately, she was one of the first to be eliminated from the show, but that doesn’t discourage her to pursue her dream. From that moment, she realized one thing and that is she can’t control everything in life.
When she started her business, she began calling the shots. She began building a strong client base for MediZed that is all about the medical field. The company’s aim is to help companies to relay products and concepts through animation. Soon after found out that she likes solving problems for undeserved markets.
When her company is already earning, she left it to focus on her next company, Local Hero, which is aimed to disrupt the food industry by directing the chefs to the farmers.
The company makes it possible for chefs to order ingredients straight from local farmers, which eliminates the need for companies like Sysco and warehouse storage. The software is designed to create a direct line between the two parties.
Morris noted that they want to create transparency in the food system. They want to make sure that the middle man would not take advantage of the local farmers and the chefs that are using the product.
For her an efficient system is not like
Factory farm > broker > trucking company > warehouse > broker > distributor > restaurant/grocery
But something like this.
Farmer > delivery > chef
"I like to start with a blank sheet of paper," she said. "Don't put up walls and barriers. If anything were possible, how would it be done? Put your goals way too high. From education to healthcare, how should we have done it? A chef should be able to access any number of farms around in palm of his hand."
She has accomplished many things before she reached her 30’s. From there, she learned a lot about startup life. She said that she had given up a lot of things early in her life just so she can stay focus with what she is doing. She added that the only way to be successful is by doing your best at anything you do. Soon, the people around you will see your way and will respond to that.
