The term reality TV show doesn’t really fits since most of the acts that these people are doing are directed. Someone is telling them to do that and that is not free will.
At least, that is how some locals see it with how a raunchy new reality series bound for the Pensacola area will affect the image the area.
CMT’s “Party Down South” is about eight young Southerners on a summer vacation having extreme fun involving booze and bed hopping. The news that the show might film on Pensacola got some locals all fired up.
Of course, there are those that would welcome the reality show with an open arm like Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino as he believes that it will boost local business in the area.
According to Samantha Goldstein, a representative for the production company’s public relations firm, they have scouted the area and they like it. The southern hospitality is what they are looking forward too.
However, there are no confirmations on where the show will be shot.
Liz Hewson of Pensacola Beach believes that the reality show will have a negative impact on their place.
Leon Rice, who lives next door to where the casts and crew were filming before said that the experience was a nightmare. Both casts and crew were abusive and destroys their peace and quiets and rights.
They tried to talk to the casts and crews, but they just get a resounding “Nos.”
Al Hitchcock, owner of Inlet Affairs Catering in Murrells Inlet, said he understands why some people in his area don’t like the idea of letting the reality show film in their area, but added that for him it will help the business in their area.
However, he doesn’t think that it will bring the tourist in their area. Perhaps a few tourists might be encouraged to go to their area, but not that much.
And continued that those who have visited Murrells Inlet will know the truth that the show is not based on reality after all, despite the fact that there are a few young vacationers who do whoop it up late at night; much in the same way the “Party” cast did nearly all day.
Sinor said that locals will put their fears aside when they learn that the producers are looking at a hunting lodge on 300 acres, about an hour outside of Pensacola in the middle of a pine forest to be the main shooting area.
He can’t give the exact location, but claimed that there will be no house near the location.
