She got know as the singing nun, worldwide, when she sang the songs of songs by Alicia Keys, Cyndi Lauper and Bon Jovi. The Youtube videos that were posted gather millions of views after posting for a few weeks.
On Thursday, Sister Cristina Scuccia, the Sicilian singing nun who has become a worldwide phenomenon was hailed as the winner of the TV talent competition “The Voice of Italy” after performing her version of “What a Feeling,” the Oscar-winning song from the 1983 film “Flashdance.'’ Toether with some dancers by a chorus line of dancers dressed as monks, who threw off their habits to reveal pastel-colored suits.
“My dream is to recite Our Father together,” she said upon winning, in the tone of the Lord’s Prayer, whereas the show’s judges was shuffling their and felt like embarrassed.
Some people say that this success might go over to her head because of the instant fame she has. Perhaps, even letting her on a different direction from being a nun. After all, those, who win the show, will have a contract and that means big money.
“There are plenty of people guiding her who will help organize her artistic activity. I think she has a lot of support,” said Claudia Koll, the actress who was responsible for putting Sister Cristina at the drama school she runs at a nunnery in Rome after she hears how good she is. “She is supported by prayer and by people, so she’s not as much at risk as people think,” as stated by Ms. Koll in a telephone interview.
Before the actual competition on Wednesday night, Sister Cristina claimed that her future relies on her superiors, which means it include tours or recording contracts. She added that she is ready to return to church to serve the lord if that is what they wish.
On the Thursday night Sister Cristina beat out four rivals and eventually won the title after beating the 28-year-old rocker channeling a 1970s heavy metal look.
“I want to thank everyone who has helped me during this difficult period, thanks for having protected me many times, " Sister Cristina said following the time she won, while citing her fans; the middle-aged nuns who have gain popularity because of her performances in front of the audience; and her coach J-Ax, a 41-year-old rapper. The odd couple was known called “the devil and the holy water,” which translate to an Italian idiom for a most unlikely alliance.
