When
ABC decided to pick up this very popular show I do not think they knew what they were getting themselves into. Who could have known that this program would be around for over a decade? All My Children is an American soap opera that made its debut on January 5th 1970 and has since aired over 10,000 episodes as of 2010. The show was created by Agnes Nixon; she is an American writer and producer who attended Northwestern University. Agnes also created the very popular show One Life to Live and has been immortalized in the Soap Opera Hall of Fame at Planet Hollywood.
Over the years this show has had a lot of storylines so describing all of them to you would be utterly useless, what I can tell you are some of the themes that have been the spotlight of the show. In the early days of the show murder, accidental killings, cheating spouses, and abortion were the common theme. Now the show centers on more controversial themes such as Gay & Lesbian marriage. The major character from this show is Erica Kane who is played by Susan Lucci; this character is one of the many that has been with the show since its start in 1970.
The ratings for this show have been pretty good for the most part. The lowest amount of viewers ever recorded for this program happened on August 22nd 2008; this episode only received 1.9 million viewers which is not a lot considering that most TV programs of this nature show receive an average of 9 million viewers per episode. But that was not the end of the show, since then the show has come back and is receiving a great amount of viewers. If they play their cards right this program may be around for a while longer.
Look, this is the kind of programming networks use to fill up empty time slots. I am not saying that they are not interesting, but soap operas are the programs that television companies use to fill daytime section of broadcasting. One of my biggest problems with programs like these are that they are filled with drugs, sex, violence, and other junk; sometimes even more than you find in movies. But if you are so inclined to watch programs like these head over to
ABC and check out this program or log onto their website and view information about the cast, photos, and discuss the show with other viewers.
