American Idol is currently one of the most watched television shows on air to date. Millions of viewers tune into this program from around the world to see contestants compete for a recording contract. Auditions are held at the beginning of each season; these auditions are open to the public but before prospective contestants can get to the main judges they have to pass two additional sets of judges. This insures that the auditions are carried out without a hitch and none of the terrible singers make it near the judges that really count. Well most of the times… After the contestants are chosen the main program begins and Americans are allowed to vote for their favorite singer by texting their vote to a designated number.
Although the goal of the show is to win the contract; contestants who have come near to winning have also made it big in the music industry. Sometimes it is not all about winning; just being on the program shows many recording companies that you are a good singer. Not all the lucky winners of this program have gone down is music history as exceptional; some have gotten lost in the overcrowded music world. The judges also take into consideration the clothes, hair, and stage presence of the contestants to make sure they capture the attention of viewers.
One of the main attractions of this show is Simon Cowell the American Idol judge who almost never seems to have anything good to say about the contestants. Most viewers love him and think his mean attitude and rude comments are entertaining. Simon is not always mean; if a singer does an exceptionally good job he will tell them, and for that I have to give him credit. In early 2010 Simon announced that he will be leaving American Idol, he is doing this so he can have more time to work on his upcoming American version of The X Factor.
American Idol is one of the best television programs out there; it has everything from comedy (Simon) to music. What more could you ask for in a program? It is no surprise to me that this is the number one watched music program in America. If you have never seen it; head over to youtube.com and check out clips from their show, then when the show is back on the air go and watch it. There is nothing else that can come close to this program; I give American Idol 9/10!!!
