Bob is one of the most renowned American journalists and personalities who have worked almost the longest as a journalist. He has touched almost all areas of journalism and has also worked with all major companies involved in media and broadcast.
He was born Bob Lloyd Schieffer in 1937 in Austin Texas where he grew up, Bob has consistently worked with
CBS news for over 40 years. He has served the roles of an anchor, chief of the Washington correspondent, a moderator on the show Face the Nation and has recently anchored the
CBS evening News.
Bob is an alumnus of North Side High School and the Texas Christian University. He was and still is a member of the Phil Delta sorority. For his recognition as a member of the school, the Journalism School is named after him.
His career as a journalist has however had a strong bias to politics.
Bob is one of the few celebrities who has survived the hard times and fought cancer successfully. Although being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2003, he has been able to successfully endure the times and get treatment and is now healthy.
Bob has interviewed and interacted with major political heavy weights and was the moderator during the presidential debates between John Kerry and George W. Bush in 2004. Also, in 2008 he played the same role and saw through the debate between Senator Barack Obama and his competitor John McCain.
He received his first recognition as a journalist back in 1963 while he was working for the US Air force in Vietnam where he worked as an information officer.
In 1969, Bob left the Star telegram to work with
CBS news where he has built his career.
Schieffer worked as a news Broadcaster for the
CBS news for 2 over two decades from 1970's to the late 1990's where he was also working with the Pentagon as a correspondent.
Schieffer's controversial personal interaction with president bush saw the decline in the number of viewers of the
CBS evening news when he was appointed interim anchor to replace Dan Rather.
Bob has been a consistent journalist and a stylish man and this has won him six Emmy awards and he was also named broadcaster of the year back in 2002. Due to his efforts and determination, he was also put in the Cable broadcasting hall of fame.
Bob left CBS news in 2006 and now does songwriting in New York as a hobby and part time engagement. His works are four songs that are produced together with a band in Washington and all are in his latest cd titled Road Kill Stew and other News. Bob also writes lyrics for other musicians.
Bob has a young Brother, Tom Schieffer who was also working closely with former US president George Bush. During George W. Bush's era, Tom was elected as the ambassador to Australia and also in Japan there after. He has interests in politics and has ambitions of become the governor of Texas.
Bob is happily married to Patricia Penrose and they have two children.
