'I wanted to show everyone across America that that is the sort of artist you would see if you came to see me in an arena.' Carson Daly then discloses that Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas David, who performed a rendition of Bill Withers “Lean On Me” was the first contestant saved by voters. The second contestant who got lucky was Team Blake's Cassadee Pope, who then got up on stage with Belew to perform with the country band Rascal Flatts. Right after the performance Team Adam's Amanda Brown was asked what the best advice her mentor had given her. 'That would be for me to be myself and stick true to what is right for me," she answered. As soon as the performance was finished, Christina poured compliments on former Yale quarterback Dez Duron. 'Dez is someone who can do anything. He is so young to have the musical chops he does and the talent he has,' she said. 'He has the depth and sustainability to stay in the competition, and he is an amazing voice to be reckoned with.' Carson then announced that Team Adam's 17-year-old New Yorker Melanie Martinez was the fifth artist that got through to the next round. Ahead of the next result, Team Blake and Team Christina performed Pat Benatar's 'Hit Me With your Best Shot', which was picked by viewers using a Twitter hash-tag vote. Amanda Brown was the last singer to be saved by the public and sent through the next round.
