Dateline is an American television program which airs weekly on
NBC. This program made its debut in 1992 and has been on the air ever since. Before Dateline,
NBC had tried unsuccessfully to create an investigative journalist based show. But when they finally launched Dateline it took off boosting the ratings of their network greatly. The anchors for this program include: Ann Curry, Chris Hansen, and Hoda Kotb. There are also a lot of contributing anchors and correspondents; with such a full cast it is no wonder this program is one of the best.
Dateline is similar in programming to
CBS's 60 Minutes, both of these programs are very informative but I really think the producers of Dateline do a little better job than the ones at 60 Minutes. I do have to give 60 Minutes credit; they have been around much longer than Dateline and they have been able to keep their good ratings for the most part. It is always good to watch programs like this they are pretty interesting and keep you informed about things that are happening all around the world, things that most news programs skip over; this is definitely what investigative reporting is all about.
As with all investigative shows Dateline has not been without its flaws; on more than one instances Dateline has had to apologize to viewers, companies, and private citizens for reporting something that was not true or for blowing things out of proportion. For example during the early years of the show a program was aired in which Dateline told viewers that a certain GM truck exploded on impact because of a faulty design in the gas tank. The only problem was that the footage of the exploding truck was a staged event; Dateline had not informed the viewers of this, so GM filed a lawsuit against them which was settled a few days later.
Take a minute out of your busy day and check out this program, this is one of the few good ones left on televisions. Dateline is suitable for all ages so you do not have to worry about your children being traumatized, if you are looking for a subject to write a school paper on or just information on the program; swinging by
NBC's Dateline website is also a very good idea. Here you will find everything neatly place and easy to find.
NBC has really done a great job with this program so make use of it.
