David Martin who is a Yale graduate was born in Washington D.C in 1943 and has had a successful career as a journalist, author and news correspondent.
Currently he works for
CBS News where he started as a researcher in 1969. He holds the position as the National Security Correspondent. In his life, he has also served as an officer working abroad during the Vietnam War with the U.S Navy Destroyer.
Martin has also had working experience with Associated Press in the early years of his career (1971 - 1972) and became a fellow of the Washington Journalism Center in 1973.
While working for
CBS News and acting as the National Security correspondent, Martin has had a chance of covering almost all defense related broadcasts. He has largely covered this niche, and since being appointed to report on the pentagon he has proceeded to appear on major security related broadcasts including 60 Minutes and international stories for
CBS Evening News.
Apart from being successful as a journalist on the screen, Martin is also a renowned and talented author. He has published two books; "Wilderness of Mirrors" in 1980 and 'The Best Laid Plans' in 1988 which is a revelation of the secrets in the American CIA and Russian KGB.
While covering the pentagon and the State department, Matthews was able to explore a lot and he ended up reporting on virtually all major areas of defense and national intelligence and security. His programs were aired in major broadcasts including 60 Minutes,
CBS Evening News and 48 Hours.
Over his career, Martin has immensely report on the war in Iraq and the US invasion in Afghanistan. His creative strategies and knowledge of military operation and defense strategies have given him an upper hand and have enabled him to prosper highly in this field. Martin was the first journalist to travel to the Middle East and reveal to the world big stories on the war in Iraq. He witnessed and reported it to the world when the world was launching attacks on Saddam Hussein's Palace in Baghdad.
His work as a hardworking and immensely talented journalist has not gone without getting noticed. In 2002 he was awarded two Alfred L DuPont Awards for his recognition of his reporting work and efforts. There are award issued to outstanding individuals by Columbia University and all of these proceedings were consequently aired by
CBS News.
During the award issuing ceremony, the officials said that his "consistently excellent reporting on the beat of national security hit its peak this year.

In 2004 while he was still busy reporting, he was further accorded the Joan S. Barone Award for distinction in national affairs and public policy reporting.
David Martin is happily married to Dr. Elinor and they are blessed with four kids. They live in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
