Since its start, The Walt Disney Company has been a major player in the entertainment business; catering to persons of all ages. So it was not surprising when they decided to launch their own TV channel.
Disney Channel went online in the early part of 1983 and has since become one of the most profitable assists of The Walt Disney Company.
Disney Channel has also launched the careers of some of the biggest names in entertainment today. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Christina Aguilera and Stacy Ferguson all appeared on Disney Channels programming before becoming the stars we know today.
Disney Channel's programming is geared towards families and children and hasn't changed much throughout the years. Most of the programs center on the humorous day-to-day life of the children and teenagers. Their most popular shows right now are: The Suite Life on Deck, Hannah Montana, and Sonny With a Chance. Hannah Montana is especial popular with "tween" and you cannot walk into a Wal-Mart or any clothing store without seeing their merchandise. The Suite Life on Deck is a spin-of Disney Channel's original show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and the show still centers around both boys. Sonny With a Chance is Disney's Channel first television show that is shot and broadcasted in HD and ratings seem to be going pretty well. These are just a few examples of the many shows that Disney Channel is currently airing.
Disney may not be very educational but it does provide relatively decent programs of children 11-15. Most of the programs promote good values like friendship, getting things done on time, and standing up for what you believe is right.
