Edward Albert Heimberger was an American actor who lived from 1906 to 2005. During this time he worked up a very impressive resume, check it out.
Early Life:
Eddie Albert was born in the beautiful state of Illinois. He was the oldest of the five children born to Julian M. One of the very interesting things about Eddie is the fact that most of his documents state that he was born in 1908; in actuality he was born in 1906. His mother changed the information on his birth certificate so that nobody would be able to know that he was born out of wedlock. When he was just 14 he joined the drama department at his school, I wish I could say that after that there was no turning back, but there was. Eddie Albert went to the University of Minnesota where he studied business this career did not go anywhere because the stock market crashed soon after he got out of college.
TV Career:
Eddie Albert's Television career started in 1952 when he was casted for the series Leave It to Larry. Leave It to Larry was a sitcom that aired on the
CBS network; this program only ran for one season and was shot in black and white. Overall this show was counted as a frailer and did slow down Eddie's career a little, but in 1965 he was asked by Paul Henning to star in the sitcom Green Acres. This show was successful and ran for a total of 6 seasons covering 170 episodes; this was Eddie's first big break. The Green Acres was canceled because
CBS was trying to move away from their old reputation; for some time people had been referring to them as the Country Broadcasting System because of the programming they were airing. After the show was canceled Eddie took a four year break from television, but he returned stronger than ever staring in show Switch. This program was an action drama about a team of detective and ran for 3 seasons covering 70 episodes.
Other achievements:
One of the great things about Eddie is the fact that he was a hero both on screen and off screen; his military career lasted from 1942-1945. During this time he worked as a spy for the U.S. Army, posing as a clown he toured Mexico and used the opportunity to take pictures of German U-boats sitting in the harbor. Also during the Tara-wan Invasion Eddie rescued 47 Marines and supervised the rescue of 30 others; for this he received a Bronze Star from the United States Navy.
In all Eddie stared in over 100 television shows and a long line up of successful movies; to this day he is still considered one of the best actors ever to grace television. If you have not seen any of his work I strongly suggest you check it out. Too many times TV stars are not good role models, but Eddie was a great actor, hero, father, and husband. If we had more people like him; this world would be a much better place.
