Ernest Borgnie is and American actor who is considered by most people in the business as a champion. His career has lasted over five decades in a business where most stars only last a few years; there is no point in trying to argue that he is not great.
Early Life:
Ernest Borgnine was born on January 24th 1917 and is the son of an Italian couple. When he was just two years old his mother and father separated because they were not getting along quite well. His mother headed back to Italy but a few years, but later returned to the United States and fixed things with her husband. The family finally settled in North Haven, Connecticut where his mother worked on dreams of creating her own dance and Ernest attended public school. From an early age Ernest was known for his wit, charm, and temper; the only person who surpassed him in these areas was his father.
TV Career:
It can be said that Ernest's acting career officially began with his role in the 1950's show Captain Video and His Video Rangers. After staring in only two episodes of this show Ernest was starting to get noticed by a lot of big name companies; he then went on to star in Little House on the Prairie and The Love Boat and after that there was no turning back for his career. Of course as with any successful career there are a few times of worry; after Ernest stared in the popular show Seven Against the Sea –this show ran for 4 seasons- he was worried about how the public would view him. This is because film production companies hire actors largely on how the public perceives them, if people could not see pass his role as Lieutenant Commander on the show it could greatly affect his career. Overall everything worked out fine because he was casted in the film version of the show and also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Ernest went on to star in many other TV show including
Airwold and The Single Guy, and of recently he has lent his voice to the superhero character Mermaid Man in the Nickelodeon cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants; his long time work partner Tim Conway voiced his sidekick Barnacle Boy in this same show.
Other achievements:
As you can expect Ernest has taken home quite a few Awards over the years for his roles in TV shows and Movies. His awards include a Golden Globe Award, NBR Award, NYFCC Award, BAFTA Award, Academy Award, and of recently he was awarded a much deserved Lifetime Achievement Award. Ernest was not only an on screen hero; he was also an off screen one serving a total of ten years in the United States Navy and earning the American Campaign Medal, the Good conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
