Ghost Whisperer is an American television paranormal drama that airs on
CBS. The show made its debut on September 23, 2005 and has since run for 4 complete seasons. This show is currently in its 5th season which is set to air its finale in May of 2010. Jennifer Love Hewitt is the main actress from this show; she is also one of the executive producers and she makes sure that the show runs smoothly without any problems. In the show Jenifer plays the character Melinda Gordon; this lady has the very rear talent/curse of being able to see ghosts. Melinda is usually the only person who can see them and she does her best to help them cross to "the other side". Sometimes there are angry spirits, confused spirits, or spirits who cannot leave because they have unfinished business here on earth Melinda usually helps them with this. Most episodes focus on one problem which is solved by the end of the episode.
Although this is a fictional show; it is based on the work of "Spirit Communicators" Jamse Van Praagh and Mary Ann Winkowski. Both claim to have the ability to communicate with sprits and some of the situations in the show are from what they claim to be their own real life experiences. These two seem to have a very active imagination and even if they could talk to ghosts I certainly cannot take them seriously after some of the things I have seen in the show.
Syndication rights for the show were bought by SyFY, ION Television, and WE TV in 2008. All three networks have been playing episodes from the first three seasons since late 2009 so if you would like to see some of the older episodes you can check them out there.
Overall I think this show is pretty entertaining. It can get a little intense with all the ghosts, dead people, and angry spirits so I strongly suggest you sit in with this your children if you are going to let them watch this program. Otherwise you will probably be up all night comforting them that there are no such things as ghosts.
CBS really hit it good with this program, there is an ever growing fascination with the occult; people just cannot seem to get enough of it. I have a feeling this show is going to be around for a few more seasons, so head over to
CBS and check out Ghost Whisperer for yourself.
