Glee is
Fox's newest addition to their music based programming. This American musical comedy-drama first aired on May 19, 2009 and has since completed its first season of 13 episodes. The show centers around the lives of a handful of high school students who are all part of a Glee club. The interesting thing is that some of these students are football players, geeks, and nerds so they come from all walks of like.
The concept for this show came from co-creator Ryan Murphy childhood. As a high school youngster Murphy was always the lead actor in the schools plays and musicals. The other co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan were also very active in plays, musicals, etc. while in high school. This is probably why the show has an authentic feel to it as opposed to most of the other shows that have writers writing about something they know nothing about. A few critics say that Glee remind them of High School Musical but all three creators say this is not possible because they have never seen the film series, they also stated that they are trying to give Glee a feel like the movie Chicago instead of having characters burst into song at random parts in the show.
A real big part of Glee is the music; this show would be nothing if they had not struck a deal with Columbia Records. Surprisingly many artists including Madonna and Riahnna have offered to allow Glee to use their music at a subsidized rate. Most of the times shows writers and producers have a hard time finding music to use and end up making their own songs, but most of the major artist have supported this show pretty well. But then again they have also supported American Idol with also appears on
Fox so I think that has something to do with it.
All things considered Glee is a pretty decent show; if you are a music lover you will find this program very entertaining. The covers they do are pretty good; other shows usually slaughter songs when they try and cover them; this is probably why most artist do not allow their songs to appear in just any show. But the producers of Glee make show that everything is done right. The plot for the show is also pretty interesting, it is not like what you mostly find on television today, so if you are looking for a great show that is not like everything else check out Glee on the
Fox network.
