How I Met Your Mother is an American comedy drama that airs on
CBS. This show was created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays and made its debut in late September 2005. The show is already in its fifth season and has covered over 102 episodes to date. The main actors are: Josh Rednor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan. These five actors play the roles of five friends who live and work in New York City.
The plot goes something like this: In 2030 the main character Ted Mosby decides to tell his children the story of how he and their mother ended up together. This show is narrated by Bob Saget, most of the narrations are done is the past-tense because the events have already taken place. Most of the comedy in this show is pretty funny, there are not many over the top moments in this show so this is definitely something you can watch with the whole family.
How I Met Your Mother has received pretty ok reviews from most critics. The New York Times says they think the show has potential but has not lived up to its premise yet. A few others have not been as nice in their comments; I think this is because of the close resemblance of this program to the old sitcom Friends. Critics and viewers alike are expecting it to live up to the legacy that Friends left behind. One thing that everybody has to agree on is the amount of awards this show has been nominated for; every year the show is nominated for 3 or more Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, or Teen Choice Awards. The show also successfully takes home a few of these awards each year.
How I Met Your Mother may not be the funniest program out on television today, but it is still pretty good and has earned its spot on
CBS. With all the new comedy shows coming out each year; lasting 5 seasons is a real great accomplishment.
CBS really has something here and if they encourage the writers to push the envelope a little more I am sure this will go down as one of the greatest comedy sitcoms of all times. If you would like to check out this show for yourself head over to
CBS or purchases season 1-4 which are now available on DVDs.
