After his stunning win on The X Factor James Arthur's single Impossible shot straight to the top.
But James' chances didn’t expect to be beaten by his chart-topping rivals The Justice Collective as they have now surpassed James effects with an increase of sales.
The group now had sold another 3,400 copies of their song, the tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough football disaster could see James become the second X Factor winner to miss out on the festive top spot.
Prior to Justice Collective being on the top spot, James was leading the race which the Official Chart Company has described as 'the closest' ever.
As of now, Arthur has sold 106,300 copies while his rival The Justice Collective have shifted 107,900.
Managing Director of the Official Chart Company, martin Talbot said: 'This really is the closest No.1 battle we can remember - even closer than the legendary 2009 battle between Rage Against the Machine and Joe McElderry,
'The poll concludes at midnight on Saturday night [December 22], so there is a long way to go yet - but this one looks like going down to the wire.'
Last week, James' managed to do well on his debut album when he sold over 490,000 copies, thus becoming the fastest selling single of 2012.
It is said that the proceeds of James's track are going to Together For Short Lives, whereas The Justice Collective is a tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough football disaster.
The Justice Collective includes all-star casts such as Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, Melanie C, Gerry Marsden, Shane MacGowan and Beverley Knight.
Gennaro Castaldo of retailer HMV said: 'The Justice Collective has the momentum that comes with a new release, and clearly a lot of people are passionate about its message, but James Arthur's really strong showing last week has probably surprised a few people, and with the Sunday he also has the benefit of an extra day's sales.
'For the moment the advantage is with James to remain at the top for a second week, but if the campaign behind Justice Collective keeps growing, as we think it will, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother still has a good chance of making it. It's going to be close-run thing.'
Bookmakers William Hill confessed the Justice Collective were originally favorite to secure the Christmas top spot, but have now changed James's odds after the news of his sales.
James's odds have moved from 11/2 to 2/1, whereas the Justice Collective remains favorite at 4/11.
William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: 'We thought that the Justice Collective would have a considerable lead at this stage in proceedings, but it would seem that James Arthur really does have the X-Factor.'
The winner of the Christmas No.1 is set to be announced on Sunday afternoon on BBC Radio 1.
