Jon Stewart is famous for his role as a host of the "Daily Show" shown on the
Comedy Central Born on 28th of November, 1962, Jon Stewart is not only a stand up comedian, but also a recognized TV host, a writer, a successful media critic as well as an actor and a an American political satirist. Jon began his career as a stand up comedian on the stand up comedy circuit and in his career path ventured into various TV roles. He has also had a fairly extensive filmography that started in 1994. Since then he has undertaken a variety of mostly small roles in a long list of films ranging from Mixed Nuts in 1994 (where he played a roller blader) to The Great Buck Howard (playing himself) in 2008.
Jon Stewart has been involved in a number of TV shows in various capacities. His earlier work includes hosting Attention Span Theatre for the comedy channel. In addition he has also worked for MTV and actually had his own show called the "Jon Stewart Show". Following that he continued to work for MTV in the capacity of a host for the show "You Wrote It, You Watch it" before returning to Comedy Central to host "The Daily Show". This is where Stewart gained significant exposure and where he became a household name. The huge success of The Daily Show led to Jon winning an Emmy Award in 2001. This was not the only Emmy that he has won in his career. He has won a total of 10 Emmys throughout his career at The Daily Show. He has won Emmys as either a writer or a producer. If that wasn't enough, Jon was responsible for writing one of the best selling books in the US; America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction, in 2004. His show at Comedy Central has also enjoyed many nominations for news and journalist awards.
Prior to his TV success, Jon Stewart started out as a comedian on the comedy circuit. Being the joker at school Jon always wanted to try stand up comedy but his nerves let him down until he plucked up the courage to first appear at The Bitter End. It didn't take Jon long to establish his name on the
comedy club circuit and towards the end of his stage career, he was normally the final main act. His first TV break came when he was asked to write for Caroline's
Comedy Hour.
As for Jon Stewart's personal life, he was born in New York City in a family of four that included his brother, his mother Marian and father, Donald Leibowitz. His parents divorced when Jon was 11 years of age and he continued to live with his mother. Jon remembers being subjected to bullying at school due to his Jewish background.
In his adult life, Jon Stewart was married to Tracey McShane in year 2000. Jon and his wife applied for a change of family name and the couple remains married with 2 children, a boy (Nathan Thomas Stewart ) and a girl (Maggie Rose Stewart).
