In early 2004
ABC was looking for the next big show, after looking around for a little while they ordered a script from Spelling Television. Spelling Television was given the job of writing the script for a television show based on the novel Lord of the Flies and the movie Cast Away, this was just a walk in the park for the writers at Spelling Television and within a short time they had the script ready;
ABC gave the green light for this show to start filming later that year. Since then Lost has run for 5 complete seasons and is currently in its six and final season which is scheduled to air in May of 2010. Lost has become one of the most popular television shows of our time gaining over 16 million viewers per episode and spawning numerous spinoffs that have no relation to the
ABC network. If you read a lot of new fictional novels you will notice that a lot of them have incorporated elements from shows like this.
Although
ABC has made millions from this show it is one of the most expensive shows to shoot, this is mainly because of the large cast and the fact that the show is shot on location in Hawaii.
ABC has also been selling show merchandise such as CDs and action figures which help even out the amount made to the amount spent to film this show. Lost is one of the many shows that utilizes the cold open method; this is basically when a show jumps right into the action before showing the open credits, this is smart trick because viewers are less likely to change the channel if they are already watching a show.
Lost basically covers the issue of human nature, yes I know it does not seem like that at first but if you take a closer look at the plot you will see what I am talking about; after all that is what the book that this show is made off of is about. The plot goes something like this: After a devastating plane crash which strands the surviving passengers on a seemingly deserted island, all survivors must try to stay alive and some will stop at nothing to get off the island. I would give a lot more details but this is a general information article, not a spoiler page. All I can tell you is this show is very interesting, go check it out and decided for yourself.
