Simpsons and the 'Life in hell'?? Then you would probably adore the man behind the creation of both of these excellent comic strips, Matt Groening. He is renowned for his exceptionally magnificent cartoon characters and great screen plays. This cartoonist, producer and screen play writer was born in Portland on 15th February 1954. He is one among the 5 children of his parents. His mother Margaret Ruth was a teacher in a near by school and his father was a cartoonist, advertisement creator and a writer. Matt never actually enjoyed studying and attending classes in school. His teachers were a little upset with him because he as more inclined to drawing than he was in his studies.
Though he relocated himself in Los Angeles for becoming a writer but he started off his career with some abysmal jobs like ghostwriter to a retired director, working in a nursing home and similar. But he managed to write while he was into those miserable jobs. He wrote and self published his first comic book –'Life in Hell' and sold it near a pizza parlor where he used to work. He officially sold his first cartoon in the year 1978 to Wet Magazine. His career and inclination towards writing and sketching cartoon continued and he got a job in the Los Angeles Reader. He used to draw cartoon for a couple of columns. His cartoons were adored by many.
He then with the help of his then girlfriend released his won Comic book in the Reader and 'Life is Hell' was released officially. Soon his comic strip became a huge success. James L. Brookes loved Matt's cartoons after he first had a glimpse of them. He offered matt to recreate his cartoons in the form of a show but Matt was a little apprehensive and was afraid that he will lose the rights for his cartoons. Fox use the original version. Matt along with Cohen developed the animated series 'Futurama' about life in the 3000. Matt has also published a few comic books like the Bongo comics group with Cindy Vance, Bill Morison and Steve Vance. With his comic books he added humor and fun to the comics and public adored his effort. He has also won 11 out of 25 nominations for the 'Outstanding animated program' by Emmy Awards. He has also received 'British Comedy Award' for extraordinary contributions to the industry.
