Michael J. Fox is a Canadian born actor who is best known for his work on the show Family Ties and the movie franchise Back to the Future. He career has been comprised of both triumph and tragedy, but he is still going strong and should be around for a while longer.
Early Life:
Michael Andrew Fox was born in Alberta, Canada on June 9th 1961 to parents Bill and Phyllis Fox. As a young boy Michael had a love for drama and when he was only fifteen he landed his first big role in the TV sitcom Leo and Me. During this time he also attended Burnaby Central Secondary School but he never finished school; he packed up his things and moved to Los Angeles to farther peruse his acting career. What lay ahead of his was a long road to success and a slow fall from it.
TV Career:
After Michael moved to Los Angeles he was offered a few small roles in various shows. These were usually one episode roles and his characters almost always had little to do with the plot line of the show. During this time his career outlook was bright, but all of a sudden everything seemed to stop and Michael was out of work again. His first real big break came when he landed the role of Dennis Baxter in the television show Poison Ivy, after this his agent called him again with new roles. He stared in Teen Wolf, Family Ties, Back to the Future, and finally settled down on Spin City. On this show he played the character Mike Flaherty for a grand total of 103 episodes; by the time he left the show in 2001 Michael J. Fox had become a common name in the entertainment industry. Tragedy struck when Michael was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease; this seriously injured his career. But never to be the one to back down or give up Michael J. Fox has become one of the many people to champion awareness of the need for a permanent cure to the disease.
Other achievements:
Of recently Michael has played in the TV shows/movies Boston Legal, The Magic 7, and Rescue Me. Another thing about him that most people do not know is that he is also a great producer; he has served as Executive producer on Spin City, Anna Says, Otherwise Engaged, and Hench at Home. Now to my favorite part; his awards. Michael J. Fox has been awarded with four Golden Globe Awards, five Emmy Awards, two Kid's Choice Awards, a People's Choice Award, two Screen actors Guild Awards, and many many more. If I took the time to list them all; this short biography would turn out to be a huge book. My point is Michael is definitely one of the greatest minds to grace the big screen and the small screen within the last 60 years. If you haven't seen any of his work go check out one of his many TV shows or movies; I am sure you will not be disappointed.
