Looks like the Military Wives choir have marched their way to the top of the charts as they manage to take the coveted Christmas number one spot.
Last week, they managed to sold 556,000 copies of their single ‘Wherever You Are’; the single had sold more than the rest of the top 12 combined, as claimed by the Official.
It beat X Factor winners Little Mix’s single.
It also became the fastest selling single since the time that Alexandra Burke’s Hallellujah manage to sold 576,000 during its first week in December 2008.
Today, the members of the group of the group got offered with the Number 1 Award by Reggie Yates at 3pm, throughout the festive edition of BBC1's Top Of The Pops.
Gareth Malone was the guy responsible for the formation of the group for BBC2 programme The Choir, which climaxed with the group that performs at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Anything that the single will earn is going to be donated to the Royal British Legion and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).
Malone got surprised at the result of the show; they never guessed that their first rehearsal would take the number 1 spot.
Chris Evans and Radio 2 have helped them in showcasing the talent and might of these amazing women. The support of the British military for the choir has been fantastic. Malone is proud that the women found the secret to singing.
All the members of the choir got overjoyed with their triumph.
Emma Williams, 33, was celebrating alongside his husband Staff Sergeant Gavin Williams, 34, a fuel engineer with the Royal Logistic Regiment, Royal Marines.
Her husband was in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, the week prior to the time that the choir sang at the Royal Albert Hall in October.
The couple got joined by their children Lucy, four, and Ben, seven, and Gavin's parents Joan and Rob Williams.
Mrs. Williams was still amazed at what their little choir achieves.
She said that it feels like it is happening to someone else and they see themselves on the television, or the children can watch them sing the song on television. The children would be saying that they had seen them on television.
Mrs. Williams noted that they spent a lot of Christmases apart, but that is not the worst part of it since their son was born and Gavin missed their baby's first Christmas. However, they are fortunate enough that they only miss one Christmas with their baby once since there are families that miss the festive season together more than once.
