Launched in 1981, Music Television (
MTV) has become more successful than its sister channels. As the name states MTV was started as a music channel but of recently it has been featuring more pop culture programming, and has come under criticism from stars such as Justin Timberlake for this.
Most of the newer shows are "reality TV" programs centering on the daily lives of celebrities. For example; A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila was a series that followed internet celebrity Tila Tequila's search for a companion. Now why in the world would I want to watch that? Ok I mean if you are into that kind of stuff its fine, but this is not what I would call quality programming.
MTV has been at the front of many controversies, the most common being accusations from family and religious groups around the world. Most of the times MTV is accused of showing pro-sex, anti-family, drug culture, and pro-choice programming; I do agree with some of this, but everything that is shown on
MTV is shown everywhere else just not in that intensity.
I have to give them credit for showing movies that you will not find anywhere else, but that is not enough to make me spend my time watching this when there are so many other channels that demand my attention.
I use to watch
MTV for its questionable programming because they were showing something most other networks were not. But of lately their programming has just gotten real trashy and has been spitting out junk. Most of the music videos that use to be shown are not and the replacement programs have no taste at all. The only good thing that has come out of MTV is VH1
But don't take my word for it go check out the channel for yourself and decided.
