National Geographic Channel (Nat Geo) is an international cable channel that is dedicated to non-fictional programs. Surprisingly Nat Geo's cable channel didn't first launch in the United States, Nat Geo was launched in Europe and came to the US in the early part of 2001. Much like its competitors:
Discovery Channel, History, and Animal Planet; Nat Geo airs documentaries and other programs dedicated to history, culture, nature, science, and discovery. Nat Geo also has sister channels: Nat Geo Music, Nat Geo Junior, National Geographic Channel HD, Nat Geo Wild, and Nat Geo Adventure. Most of these channels are available everywhere except America, but you won't miss anything because Nat Geo is a combination of all of them.
Nat Geo HD gives you an experience like none other. I know it is so cliché to say this, but it does really make you feel like you are right there. Their world class camera crew always does a great job, and I wouldn't expect anything less from them. A few of the programs do have in a minimal amount of violence, but this is animal violence so there is really nothing to worry about.
Nat Geo does not only provide "far out there" programs. They also offer more practical programs like the Dog Whisperer, which teaches viewers how to get their dogs to behave when living in an urban environment. Most of the programs shown on Nat Geo are family friendly and children will find them enjoyable.
National Geographic has always been one of my favorite companies. I have read their magazines for years and was thrilled when I heard they were coming out with a cable television channel. If you do not have Nat Geo included in your cable lineup I strongly suggest you call up your cable provider and have them add it.
