One of the major highlights of a broadcast journalist is the fact that one is able to achieve a lot in terms of having some unique shows pegged to your name. This is what Gables was able to achieve, when she hosted several specials over the entire period she has been on the airwaves. She was able to host a program which was dedicated to firefighters who lost their lives in the September eleventh attack on the world trade center. The program, Salute To NYC Schools, was as well honored with a run, in which she participated.

Her career started at KWCH in Wichita, where she was involved in anchoring and reporting of the station's public affairs program. She was then to shift base, where she moved to KWTV in Oklahoma City. It is here that her full broadcast journalism career received some sort of boost and she was able to be promoted from an associate producer to an education reporter cum news anchor. It was while she was here that she was involved in covering of the issues affecting Tinker Air Force Base.
Soon after, Gables was to become a general assignment editor cum morning news anchor for WDIV TV in Detroit. She had a stint at the automobile world while here, as she was involved in covering any breaking story with all the three US automakers.
