Simon Cowell mentioned before how he believes in miracles and on Thursday night, it seems that his wish has been granted as the girl group Fifth Harmony were voted through to the X Factor final.
The five-piece band, who have repeatedly been advertized as the competition’s underdogs, broke down in tears as hosts Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez announced their the name of their band.
The X Factor band hugged one another and shrieked with delight, their mentor Cowell could not hide his surprise.
'Oh my god,' he said, putting his hands up to his face in amazement. 'Like I said, I believe in miracles and these girls – I thought they were sensational last night. I could not be happier.'
But Cowell’s joy was for just a moment as he discovered that Fifth Harmony’s success had cost boy band Emblem3 – his other act – their place in the final.
Emblem3 were sent home after they received the least number of public votes, which means country singer Tate Stevens and schoolgirl Carly Rose Sonenclar will battle it out against Fifth Harmony in next week’s live final.
Fifth Harmony composed of Dinah Hansen, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Normani Hamilton and Camila Cabello – were voted through to the final after they received a mixed response to their performances on Wednesday’s X Factor show.
Though all four judges impressed by their version of Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding, they got less enthusiastic comments after they sang their second song, Shontelle’s Impossible.
The teenagers, whose age ranges from 15 and 19, visibly overcome with emotion when their name read out first by Khloe and Mario.
'This is absolutely phenomenal,' 19-year-old Ally said. 'Thankyou so much to everybody who’s been supporting us. We love you all so much.'
Judge L.A. Reid didn’t hide his surprised and said: ‘Anything could happen. It just did,' he said.
Britney was also left stunned and confessed how she was not happy with the way the public had voted.
'I was a little disappointed,' she said. 'I thought it was going to be the other way around with the groups.'
Country crooner Tate Stevens was the second act that got told that he would go on to the next round. He struggled to hide his emotion when Khloe and Mario read out his name.
The 37-year-old road worker, who has confessed that he might not have a job left after the competition, had performed Clay Walker song Fall and Bonfire by Craig Morgan on Wednesday night’s show.
'This is amazing. For every country music fan out there – I am one of the biggest country music fans – thankyou so much,' Tate, from Belton, Missouri, said.
When he got asked on what he would like to say to his wife of 15 years, Ashlie, he choked the tears back and said: 'We’re here.'
Mentor L.A. added: 'I’m very, very proud. I can’t even claim to have been a country music fan, but I am now.'
Schoolgirl Carly Rose Sonenclar and boy band Emblem3 were waiting for the final announcement to learn who would be taking the last place in the X Factor final and who would be going home.
Carly Rose, 13 was visibly relieved when Khloe and Mario announced her name as one of the contestants who made it through.
'I don’t even know what to say,' she stuttered tearfully. 'Thankyou so much for voting, it means the world to me.'
Emblem3 manage to keep their heads cool as they were still polite despite losing the slot to Fifth harmony. They told their fans that they would keep singing.
'I’m just so honoured to have gone through this experience,' Wesley Stromberg said.
'We’re so grateful. Our fans are so supportive. We love them to death. They’ve been awesome voting for us. I know you guys voted your butts off, and it’s all good. We love you, and we’re going to continue doing music.'
