This American TV legal drama opened on Network Ten on February 8 back in 2010. It was the Kings, Michelle and Robert, who created the series. It features stars like Christine Baranski, Julianna Margulies, Matt Czucry, Archie Panjabi, Josh Charles, and even Chris Noth is featured in a recurring role. Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Charles McDougall, and the Kings are the executive producers of the series.
Both the cast and the series have received numerous awards. Julianna Margulies has gained wide recognition from her portrayal of the lead role. It won her two awards from the Screen Actors Guild, one Golden Globe, A TCA award (given specifically for Individual Achievement in Drama), and her own Primetime Emmy. Other winners in the cast were Archie Panjabi (Primetime Emmy) for her 2010 portrayal of Kalinda Sharma, and Martha Plimpton for portraying 'Patti Nyholm' (Primetime Emmy).
The series revolves around Alicia Florrick who is played by the talented Julianna Margulies. Her husband is Peter Florrick played by Chris Noth and is also a former state's attorney for Cook County. He has pulled some jail time over a sex and corruption scandal that went very public.
Alicia goes back to her old job of litigating (she had taken 12 years off to perform stay-at-home mom duties) so she could provide for two kids still at home.
This series got part of its inspiration from the well-known prostitution scandal involving Eliot Spitzer. It also draws on many other sex scandals involving prominent American political figures, in particular, those of Bill Clinton and John Edwards.
The Kings had who created the series and are the executive producers at one time also produced another legal drama that was short-lived called 'In Justice'. It aired in early 2006 as a mid-season replacement. The Kings had worked in feature films extensively before then.
The financing was helped along by Scott Free Productions. An executive producer by the name of 'Dee Johnson' brought some TV writing experience to the table. The director of the pilot episode was Charles McDougall who was yet another executive producer of the pilot too.
McDougall enjoyed much success previously by directing the pilot episode for 'Desperate Housewives'. There was a total of seven executive producers who returned whenever the order for a full series came in, and that is when Brooke Kennedy joined in as another executive producer.
McDougall ended up leaving the crew after being in on the executive producing and directing for the second episode.
After CBS put in the order for a full season several new producers were soon added on to the crew. One notable consulting producer and talented writer who joined the crew and brought legal experience to the table was Angela Amato Velez. She got this legal experience from working in other careers as both a legal-aid attorney and police officer. Her writing experience was obtained from two well-known police dramas named 'Southland' and 'Third Watch'.
Todd Ellis Kessler joined the staff to work as a writer and as co-executive producer. He had previously worked on 'The Practice' (a legal drama) and had just finished the production of 'The Unit'.
Kessler's fellow producer on 'The Unit' was Ted Humphrey. Ted served as supervising producer and also a writer. Then he also served as co-executive producer and a writer. Corinne Brinkerhoff finished out the production team working as co-producer and writer. Brinkerhoff had worked previously as story editor and writer for the TV show 'Boston Legal'.
