The River is something that a lot of people expected to be like shows such as Lost. For this reason, a lot of people expected an absolute cracker of a show. The River is not necessarily as good as lost from many peoples perspective, but it takes a unique twist on a new plot. The research vessel and its crew are in the Amazon and they are on the hunt to find a missing TV explorer, before it is too late. Of course, there are plenty of twists, lots of tension and too much action to mention in such a short space. Watching this with an open mind and not thinking about comparative shows is certainly going to be the best idea.
Those people that are interested in true facts and tend to be the positivist in every scenario are not likely to be the types of people that the producers were aiming this TV show at. For this reason, it is worth thinking about what kind of shows you watch and whether this show is really for you. Those that this show really does not suit will find it extremely boring and parts of it might even offend them if they are too serious about what they know and what they do not know.
Unlike many other TV shows, The River has taken a fairly interesting approach when it comes to the range of characters, the filming, the setting and the general plot. This makes this program intriguing to say the least and will generally keep the majority of people entertained. That being said, the special effects on The River certainly could do with some kind of improvement. For those that are expecting some cinema style special effects, think again, as this is simply not going to be the case. A lot of the special effects and especially when they are used, tend to come across as fairly low budget.
The reason The River works is because it does not go with the usual cliché and instead, it has its own twist. The focus is on mythology and generally magic, rather than the facts and figures relating to missing explorers and the Amazon in general, which is certainly a fresh change.
Overall The River offers viewers something new and something unique at the same time. It is certainly worth taking the time to watch a few episodes before deciding whether this is really the right type of program.
