Whenever I think of reality competition television programs I think of The Amazing Race; this is one of the most well put together reality programs on television right now. The Amazing Race first aired on
CBS in 2001 about 1 year after
CBS's other reality competition program
Survivor. The Amazing Race was created by Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster and is currently in its 16th season. So far this show has aired 179 episodes which are about 43 minutes each and shot with multiple cameras. What is so funny about this show is the fact that it was developed in less than five minutes; this was done because van Munster challenged Doganieri in a bet that she could not make a show in less than five minutes.
In this show couples are required to race around the world as fast as they can, they are required to fend for themselves and find clues that will take them from one pit stop to another until they reach the end. The team that reaches the finish line first is awarded with grand prize of one million dollars. This sounds simple enough right? Wrong! There are certain places where contestants go and they have almost no idea what to do because of language barriers. In addition they are only given a limited amount of money and if for any reason they lose it or spend it too fast they are not given anymore. This usually results in the team begging another team for money or asking the locals for help.
This program has received pretty good ratings for the years it has been on television, it has also been doing pretty good when it comes to viewership; The Amazing Race has fluctuated between 9-13 million viewers per episode and of course this number increases during season premieres.
I really think this is a great program, unlike other reality competition programs out there The Amazing Race really awards its contestants with a great prize. Who couldn't use a million dollars? So if you are feeling in the mood for a wild ride; head over to
CBS and check out The Amazing Race. In addition if you would like to connect with other fans of this program you can go to
