Over the years
CBS has been known to be the home for some of the most popular soap operas; the Young and the Restless is one of the many soaps included in their lineup. This program made its first appearance in March of 1973 and since then there has been no turning back. So far
CBS has aired over 9,300 episodes of this show; each episode is 60 minutes long and is broadcasted in standard definition. The Young and the Restless was created by William J. Bell and Lee Philip Bell; these two also created
CBS's other hit soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
When this program first started the storyline revolved around the Brooks and the Fosters families. The Brooks where rich while the Fosters were pretty poor and had a hard time making ends meet. In many a ways both families were rivals and this became one of the longest storylines ever featured on this program. By the time this story ended murder, divorce, and alcohol were all in days work for this show.
One of the very different things that this program has done is written out most of their original characters. Most programs would cease to exist if they did this, but The Young and the Restless had successfully pulled this off. Yes, this has made some fans angry but overall most of them did not care because the characters that took the place of the ones that left were pretty interesting.
The Young and the Restless has already won nineteen Outstanding Drama Series awards, not to mention the tons of WGA awards. In addition the actors and actresses from this program have also been highly awarded for their roles, for example Eric Braeden was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006 for his pretrial of the character Victor Newman.
Overall I pretty much hate this show; this is not what I would call quality television. But I have to give them credit, they have outlasted many programs that started before and after them and have definitely earned their 7,000,000+ viewers. If you would like to watch this program for yourself; head over to the
CBS Network or if you cannot find time to watch the program when it is on air you can still watch full episodes on their website. At their website you will also find cast information and a place to discuss the latest episodes with other viewers. So go check it out.
