Tom Bosley is and American actor whose career has lasted over fifty years. He is best known for his roles in shows such as Murder, She Wrote, and of course Happy Days.
Early Life:
Tom was born on October 1st 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Jewish parents and when he became of age he attended DePaul University in Chicago. Like many other major stars around today Tom Bosley made his breakthrough playing in Broadway musicals. He even won a Tony Award for his role in the 1959 Broadway musical Fiorello! and originated the role of Maurice in the Broadway version of Beauty & the Beast.
TV Career:
After leaving Broadway behind Tom headed off to the small screen taking on roles in shows Diagnosis: Unknown and The Law and Mr. Jones. But this down time did not last long and soon Tom was hired to play Richie Cunningham's son the sitcom Happy Days. This is the show that he is best known for, not only because of his great acting skills, but because he is one of the two characters who appeared in 247 episodes of the show. People loved the character Howard Cunningham (Tom's character on Happy Days) so much that in 1974 Howard was ranked #9 on the TV Guide list of "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Times" After Happy Days ended Tom took up the role of Father Frank Dowling on the TV show Father Dowling Mysteries. On this show he played a Catholic priest who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and continually stumbles upon crimes. Tom worked on this show for three complete seasons until the show ended on May 2nd 1991, after that he went on to star in many popular shows such as Walker: Texas Ranger, The Love Boat, One Tree Hill, and Family Guy. Yes that's right! Tom Bosley has not only acted he has also lent his voice to a few animated characters as well. If God should spare his life I am sure we will see him in a few more films, plays, and animated shows.
Other achievements:
As with many other great actors born around the early-mid 1900's; Tom also paid his dues to his country. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. Another thing that most people do not know about Tom is that while he was growing up he dreamed of becoming a star left fielder for the Cubs. As you can see that did not happen; but it was for the best because he went on to bigger and better things. Age has not slowed down this 82 year old actor; he just finished work on the 2010 movie The Back-up Plan which is set to release on the 23rd of April. Tom is definitely one the greatest actors of our time, unlike others who have faded away Tom has keep doing what he loves best entertaining millions of people with his amazing acting abilities.
